Ready for the Road: CCSD Welcomes New Buses to Fleet
CCSD is in the process of welcoming 30 new additions to its bus fleet, with new vehicles being delivered that will offer more safety features for its drivers and passengers while allowing the oldest buses in the fleet to be taken out of service.
Nineteen regular buses and 5 special education buses are already on site, with another six regular buses slated for delivery this month, paid for with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (Ed SPLOST) funds. The new buses are being outfitted with radios and cameras before they are rotated into the district's fleet of 459 big yellow buses-- 386 of which are in use daily, and the reserves used for spares in the event of repairs, scheduled service or special use. CCSD buses log 6 million miles per year transporting students to and from school, as well as field trips and athletics.
The new buses have illuminated signs on the front and back of the bus, as well back up cameras, collision avoidance systems and stability control to prevent rollovers. State safety grants in 2022 and 2023 allowed for the extra safety features to be added to new buses this year and last year.
