CCSD Students Advance to Young Authors Regional Competition

Cherokee County School District students are advancing to the regional level of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition!

The annual writing contest is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12 and provides an opportunity for schools to encourage writing in a variety of genres.  Each CCSD school submits a top entry for each grade level to compete at the district level.  District first-place winners then advance to the regional North Georgia Regional Education Service Agency contest for the opportunity to compete statewide.

The CCSD students who won first-place in the district competition and are advancing to regional competition are: 

Kindergarten: Karthikeya Koneru of Woodstock ES for “Joy Jog”
Grade 1: Eve Alsobrook of Clayton ES for “The Lost Dog”
Grade 2: Wren Argo of Boston ES for “My Sport in Time”
Grade 3: Samantha Wyrobek of Johnston ES for “The Marker”
Grade 4: Megan Rolfes of Indian Knoll ES for “The Magical Necklace”
Grade 5: Elli White of Clark Creek ES STEM Academy for “Reflection Collection”
Grade 6: Thansi Balasubramanian of Dean Rusk MS for “The Deadly Symphony”
Grade 7: Whitney Taneyhill of Teasley MS for “The Hollow”
Grade 8: Ellie Cosgrove of Woodstock MS for “Excerpt from ‘To the Stars’”
Grade 9: Monica Ramirez of River Ridge HS for “I Admire the Leaves”
Grade 10: Southern Moss of Creekview HS for “Innocence”
Grade 11: Eric Dogini of Cherokee HS for “The Game of Life”
Grade 12: Emily Allen of Creekview HS for “”

“Congratulation to our district winners for earning this honor through their exemplary writing skills and creativity – best wishes as you advance in the competition,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “Thank you to all of our teachers who guide our students in writing and congratulations to our winners’ teachers.  Writing is a critically important skill for every student and this program is a special way to encourage and recognize excellence.”
