Student Wins Entrepreneur Award for Competition Success

Woodstock Elementary School fifth-grader Eli Fox celebrates winning the 2023 Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award presented by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.  The award recognizes the outstanding business plan he created and carried out for the Chamber’s Lemonade Day Cherokee County summer entrepreneurship program.  Joining him are Sarah Gaither of First Horizon Bank, which sponsored the award, and Chamber Chairman Trey Ragsdale.

A Cherokee County School District student has earned a countywide entrepreneurship award!

Woodstock Elementary School fifth-grader Eli Fox today received the 2023 Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award presented by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.  The award recognized the outstanding business plan he created and then carried out for the chamber’s Lemonade Day Cherokee County entrepreneurship program.

Through the program, students in grades 3-5 were invited to learn about business by creating their own lemonade stand.  For his “Eli’s Hero Lemonade” stand, Eli developed a business plan that include investors and paid employees.  He sold several varieties of lemonade as well as frozen lemonade, Arnold Palmers (lemonade with sweet tea) and snacks at his stand.  He raised more than $500 through sales at his stand, which he set up at The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta in Woodstock.

Eli was surprised with the award, sponsored by First Horizon Bank, at the chamber’s Good Morning Cherokee breakfast.  He was invited with the understanding he was to speak about his Lemonade Day experience, and then was surprised with the announcement that he’d earned the award.  He received a $100 prize from First Horizon Bank and an invitation for a private tour, including a visit to the vault, and also earned a $100 Amazon card from the national Lemonade Day program.

During the meeting, Chamber President and CEO Pam Carnes interviewed Eli about his experience and what he planned to do with the money he earned through his stand.

“Spend some, give some to charity, save some, give some to my employees,” Eli said, mirroring the “spend, save, share” model that the program encourages students to follow.

When asked about his future aspirations, Eli didn’t hesitate: “Sell some more lemonade.”

His family, Woodstock ES Principal Ann Jordan and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower attended the presentation.

“We’re so proud of Eli for his success – not just his impressive sales, but also his understanding of what makes a small business successful and a positive part of a community,” Dr. Hightower said.  “This program is a wonderful opportunity for our students, and we appreciate the support of the chamber and First Horizon Bank.”
